• Julie Hoang
    Julie Hoang is a dance fitness instructor who has been teaching for over 6 years. She enjoys students from all backgrounds that bring their inner personality to the dance floor. She is a certified group exercise instructor for Zumba, Zumba for Kids, Zumba Toning, R.I.P.P.E.D., and Jungshin Fitness. Prior to joining the CHI Wellness center, she owned and operated Studio X which offered a variety of  group fitness classes. Julie enjoys competitive dragon boat racing in the springtime and has competed locally for the last five years. Julie loves table tennis, Latin dancing, tennis, biking, hiking, and is passionate about bringing people together.
  • Maggie Rhoades
    Maggie Rhoades is an Iyengar yoga teacher who has apprenticed with John Schumacher at Unity Woods, studied with the Iyengars and has trained with many senior teachers. She is also a certified Pilates instructor, and has developed multiple yoga and Pilates DVDs for students at all levels. Working in local hospitals, she has taught classes for cardiac and cancer patients. Maggie has an MA in Education, is a lifelong runner, an avid hiker and has practiced yoga for more than twenty years.
  • Mary Pappas-Sandonas

    Clinical Yoga Specialist

    Mary Pappas-Sandonas, MS, INHC, is a nationally and internationally recognized yoga teacher, certified nutrition health coach, and an exercise physiologist.  Certified as an Iyengar junior I intermediate instructor she has been practicing and teaching both general classes and specialty workshops for over 20 years.  She has also taught corporate workshops on Stress Reduction in the Workplace and Compassion Fatigue.  In the past, Mary has worked as a research associate in reproductive endocrinology and in schizophrenia and depression.  She has worked extensively as an exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation and as a certified personal trainer.  At CHI Health Care, she continues her inspired and purposeful work by helping patients regain their health and sense of vital well-being through yoga.  Patients who have worked with Mary appreciate her detailed, methodical and encouraging approach to teaching and treatment, delivered with characteristic compassion, sensitivity and humor.   • Natalia Melcer
    Natalia Melcer began her study of Iyengar yoga in 2005. Having studied eastern martial arts from an early age, she found the focus on precise alignment, strength, and flexibility appealing and a continuous source of challenge for both body and mind. Every day, Natalia utilizes what she has learned to provide balance between her professional career as a scientist and the artistic and creative pursuits she enjoys outside of work. As a teacher, Natalia is excited to share a style of yoga that makes the poses accessible to everyone, but challenges students to deepen the understanding of their body and experience the peace within. Natalia is a YA 200 RYT.
  • Rocky Delaplaine
    Rocky Delaplaine has been a teacher at Unity Woods since 1991 and she became a certified Iyengar teacher in 1994. After apprenticing with John Schumacher and completing courses at the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco, she traveled twice to India to study with B.K.S and Geeta Iyengar, including the Women’s Intensive study course in 1997. Rocky has experience teaching yoga for support of back care, for osteoporosis and depression, and developing its effects on creativity. Her yoga inspiration includes exploring how the practices of asana (posture) and pranayama (breath) can promote peace, foster creativity and cultivate reverence for the natural world.
  • Roya Heydari
    Roya Heydari brings a wealth of experience in yoga, personal training and exercise to all her classes. For more than 10 years she was the owner of Royal Fitness and Nutrition Health Club in Bethesda, MD where she led classes in exercise, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle, as well as worked with clients one-on-one. She has been practicing yoga intensively over the past five years, beginning with a year-long sabbatical to India where she studied at the Ananda Iyengar Yoga Center, the Omkarananda Ashram, and the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute. She is YA 200 RYT having graduated from the CHI Health Care Yoga Teacher Training program. Roya offers a unique blend of yoga, flexibility and strength training in her alignment-based classes as she helps students reach their full potential while being sensitive to their individual needs and conditions.
