Jiwoon Ryu is one of CHI Health Care’s progressive chiropractors. She will be covering of Dr. Sarah Potthoff while she is on leave. Dr. Ryu’s expertise is treating musculoskeletal injuries. She believes that conservative care without the use of medication and surgery should be a first line treatment for most musculoskeletal problems.
Dr. Ryu accurately diagnoses and develops individualized treatment plans for all her patients. She enjoys working with all ages including children, adults and elderly patients. She uses variety of techniques not limited to traditional chiropractic manipulation. This includes diversified technique, drop technique, activator, myofascial release, ultrasound, instrumental assisted myofascial release, active/passive physical therapy and kinesiotaping. She has extensive training in orthopedic injuries and can guide her patients beyond chiropractic care.
Prior to joining CHI, Dr. Ryu practiced chiropractic in a multidisciplinary setting collaborating with physical therapists, occupational therapists and orthopedists. She also works part time performing utilization review for medical necessity.
Dr. Ryu was amazed by the human body and its biomechanics while studying Exercise Sciences at the State University of Buffalo. Upon graduation, she continued her study of the human body and its movement. She discovered the benefits of chiropractic care and enrolled in New York Chiropractic College. After her extensive training at NYCC, she spent time caring for patients at a low income treatment center and the Veterans hospital in Buffalo, NY. She moved to Maryland 5 years ago to pursue her chiropractic career. She enjoys playing the piano, traveling and spending time with her family in her free time.
