Sandra (Sandy) Colvard is the licensed naturopathic doctor (ND) at CHI Health Care. She is committed to developing a deep and trusting relationship with each of her patients, to educating them about their condition, and to acknowledging them as a whole person – body, mind, and spirit. Rather than merely treating symptoms, Dr. Colvard seeks to identify and address the underlying causes of disease.
Offering tremendous expertise and vast experiences, Dr. Colvard has the ability to use a wide variety of non-invasive and natural techniques to help patients reach their health and wellness goals. She recommends and supports patients to make lifestyle changes when needed and prescribes herbal medicines, homeopathic remedies, and vitamin and nutrient therapies. She also understands and makes recommendations based on Chinese medicine theory and practice.
Dr. Colvard will always seek the most natural approaches possible for each patient and each health challenge, and, since she has a deep understanding of conventional medicine and pharmaceuticals, is able to work with patients who choose to combine western and natural medicines. Dr. Colvard is highly competent in working collaboratively with all other health care providers on behalf of each patient and often serves as an educator for providers and an advocate for her patients.
A Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO), Dr. Colvard has specialized in integrative oncology for several years. She creates and implements a tailored natural strategy for each patient to reduce side effects of conventional treatment, to support the immune system while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy, to support the body’s healing after surgery, and to support patients through the emotional challenges that often accompany the diagnosis and treatment phases. She also works with patients who are in remission and on cancer prevention strategies for high risk patients.
Trained to provide primary care, Dr. Colvard can treat patients with a wide variety of physical and mental health concerns including chronic pain, arthritis, anxiety, depression, insomnia, fatigue, grief, migraines and headaches, and digestive issues. She also has specific expertise in women’s health, including fertility and menopause, and in LGBTQ health.
Prior to working at CHI, Dr. Colvard worked as a Primary Care ND in her own private practices in Arizona and Vermont. She also worked as a ND at Cancer Treatment Centers of America where she collaborated with medical oncologists, hematology oncologists, radiation oncologists, hospitalists, surgeons, and other providers.
In addition to her private practice at CHI, Dr. Colvard leads our primary care and integrative providers as CHI’s Director of Integrative Education. She is also responsible for CHI’s Apothecary where patients may purchase high quality nutritional supplements.
Dr. Colvard supports her patients to be informed about their health and to be proactive, but to be mindful that not everything they read online is accurate. She encourages patients who seek naturopathic medical care to carefully examine the credentials of their practitioner including where they attended naturopathic medical school and if they are licensed.
